This is why my home state is cooler than yours

Thanks, btw, to [livejournal.com profile] magusronin for bringing this to my attention.

...So last week during a brushfire in Pohakuloa on my very own Big Island of Hawaii, state workers recorded footage of A TORNADO OF FIRE.

HOW TERRIFYING COOL IS THAT?!

Oddly enough, a similar fire tornado was also caught on tape in Brazil, also last week. SIGNS OF THE APOCALYPSE, Y/Y?

signs of a really dry summer.

seriously, that was awesome. NICE WORK, PELE! i especially liked when guys in the tanker decided maybe it was time to move. i was worried about them.
were you surprised not to see tourbuses heading for it?
thanks for the link - truly spectacular.

...Eh. Signs of it being Mauna Kea. We get brushfires up there all the time. ...Flaming tornadoes, granted, are rare.

Lololol I know right? They start slowly rolling away, like, "I think maybe it's time to go...."

Haha, I'm sure if it had lasted longer there would've been tourists. They closed Mauna Kea Road, but that wouldn't have stopped them. I mean, if there's one thing I know about tourists in Hawaii, it's that if you put up a sign saying "DO NOT ENTER. DANGEROUS LAVA BENCH/STEAM VENT/BLOWHOLE/ROCKFALL AREA/METHANE EXPLOSIONS/FIRE TORNADO", some lolo malihini will inevitably cross the rope and get themselves dropped into a boiling sea full of lava/baked like kalua pig/sucked into a flooded lava tube/crushed by falling boulders/blown up/set on fire and KILLED.

i think i like the "baked like kalua pig" option. two scoops rice and a side of mac salad. and a fruit punch.
oh god i just made myself homesick.

Get haupia for dessert? OH GOD ME TOO. T_T

My roommate did make some really delicious kabucha mochi last week, though. So that helps.

I love flame tornadoes! I wish I still had the videos of the flame tornado that was my high school senior physics project. Man that thing was awesome. But, you know, only a couple feet high. Not as big as the above one - which, admittedly, I'm just assuming is big, as it would take about two hours to load that youtube video, so I'm not going to bother. Alas.

[identity profile] zolac-no-miko.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this one's definitely more than a couple feet high. It's a pretty impressive pillar of flame, surrounded by a fairly forboding seething tornado of smoke.

I will have to remember this entry of yours for when I next go to the coffee shop or some place with real internet. :D I want to see that.

I think I spent most of the first minute going "Why are they walking so casually? It's a tornado made of fire! Start moving!" Then, once they started moving, I could just appreciate how cool it was that everything was on fire. (-;

[identity profile] zolac-no-miko.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? Like, the only thing that could possibly be scarier than a tornado is A TORNADO THAT IS ON FIRE. And they just sort of casually wander around for a bit.

<3 Hawaii County firefighters.

[identity profile] gogoangelgunboy.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
THEY'VE SEEN IT ALL.

including baked malihini.

[identity profile] zolac-no-miko.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
They're like, "Eh, whatever, we fight LAVA sometimes. This is nothing."

[identity profile] magusronin.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well you know 2012 is fast approaching. XD

Glad you liked that, my friend Gene Mala's mon found it. Probably looking for research for the tornado building in Gotham right now.

But yeah anyone else reminded of pillars of fire, not on my list of things from biblical myth that I was expecting to actually see video of. Very cool.
So what's next the parting of the Red Sea.

Wow. That is amazing footage, but at the same time I am terrified. Definitely signs of the apocalypse. :S
