Ayep, it's that time again... everyone's favorite holiday, National Angela Day! WHOO!! How will you celebrate? Champagne? Bonfires? Break-dance competition?

So I've hit the quarter-century mark, holy shit. I can do anything now! I can... rent a car! On top of voting, buying booze, all of that, I am basically set with everything I need. So... this is it, guys. I'm not getting any older. I am staying 25 forever.

Also, Happy Birthday to one of the BAMFest BAMFs who ever did BAMF: ALFRED MOTHERFUCKING PENNYWORTH! I found out a few weeks ago that he was born on April 8. Somehow I did not know this before. Somehow I did not realize that I shared my date of birth with the only person on the motherfucking planet who might actually be cooler than Batman. How have I lived? Man, from now on, me and Alfie are partying together EVERY YEAR, okay?

my birthday present to you might be a little delayed, had an annoying head cold this week that's made it very difficult to write anything. Haven't really felt that sick, it's just anytime I tried to concentrate on anything my minds like foggy, not here, don't want to. Anyway it's outlined and everything I just need to get around to writing it up, but you can look forward to fun times in Scotland with a couple of birds.

Dude. What are we doing for your birthday party? Are there plans? I have not heard any plans. Also I was going to call you today and try to set up plans for something but... I have no plans. But we should do something awesome. Especially while it is still sunny.

I did not really bother to make plans (what with everything else going on, the thought of trying to schedule a party or something seemed more exhausting than it was worth), but... there could be plans. I would not be opposed to plans, I suppose. It really is nice out.

Well we should do something, at least :( Also I need to get you something still... I really fail at that. Umm... hm. Well there are always places to go on a nice day like this, like wildlife refuges in various locations or Powell Butte or something. Or we could just chill out and watch movies and play games, that always works. I have to make pizza dough for our dinner here tonight but I suppose I am not required to actually be present for the pizza consumption as long as the dough is ready in time.

Anything interesting bird-wise happening out at Sauvie Island? Because it would be nice to get out there one more time before I go, maybe. Or some other natural area with neat critters in it, whatevs. I could definitely be up for the usual type of chilling in the evening maybe, but it seems a shame to waste the good weather.

How long does it take to make pizza dough and when does it need to be ready by?

Well it just has to be ready by dinner. I can make it now and stick it in the fridge but that will probably take about an hour.

As for bird stuff, right now is duck migration (but most of them are on the way out, not in) and songbirds are just starting up (and they are coming in but harder to observe). Sauvie Island might be interesting but it's kind of a long way to go for a place that is generally better in the winter. I'd suggest something more along the lines of Powell Butte to see hummingbirds and whatever else we might run across. Tualatin River NWR here would also be good for that and for whatever ducks are still hanging out.

And I so didn't realise that that version of Happy Birthday was done by the Beatles. But then again, for many years I was sure Octopuses Garden was a Playschool song.

shichahn is more of a bird person than me, but my degree is in biology, and I like wildlife in general. She and I like to go to parks and NWRs and see what there is to see, especially during the appropriate migration periods.

We saw a pair of Eurasian wigeons, it was exciting! Neither of us had heard of such a thing... we're used to American wigeons and were confused as to why this wigeon had a red head.

I live on a street called Widgeon Close - all the streets around here are named after birds. Australia has no Wigeons technically, but it would seem the native Pink-eared Duck has historically been called a Widgeon, so that's probably where the street name came from. A nearby street is called Warrajah, which had me confused until I did a bit of research and discovered that's an old name for the Spotted Crake. All the other names are still used these days so they're familiar to me.

Wigeons are the cutest thing ever. They are tiny little ducks, and they have tiny little dainty beaks, and they have sweet pretty faces, and they make the most adorable little squeaking noises, like if you gave a rubber duck a squeeze. SOCUTE!
