...Yeah, I'm just going to copypaste word-for-word how I found this in [livejournal.com profile] sirona_gs' journal. I'll just... let it speak for itself.

"What kind of adult does a kid become after surviving a trip to a cannibalistic witch’s gingerbread house?

That’s the premise of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (out March 2), which uses the centuries-old German folktale as a preamble to a larger story of vengeance and the bonds between siblings — particularly abused ones.

Next Thursday, look for a trailer from the Paramount film. But for now, we see a first look at Jeremy Renner’s Hansel and Gemma Arterton’s Gretel, all grown up."

(Full article including interview with Arterton.)

SO VERY FUCKING MANY KINDS OF YES. Also omg omg omg ZOE BELL is in it!! As an actress! (Rather than as a stunt double, I mean.)

I AM SO EXCITE.

Ahahaha, this looks like so many kinds of entertaining. (What is with all the fairtale resurgence right now? Not that there's anything wrong with that... but man, I should've gotten in on this writerly bandwagon because it is right up my alley.)

I know, right? It's like FAIRY TALES EVERYWHERE, EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK. And in a fun, "hey let's play with the canon in interesting ways" kind of way. It's kind of cool!

"Let's play with the canon in interesting ways" is what I'm all about when it comes to fairytales. (It's why I'm jealous of Gregory Maguire. I'm still pretty sure if I was given enough time I would've eventually hit upon the idea that speculative fanfiction for public domain works could be totally legit.) I'm a little worried, though, that fairytales might be this year's vampires. (Though at least fairytales are way more varied than vampires, so pop culture can probably sustain it a little better.)

Yeeeaaahh I can kind of live with it, because anything they choose to do with fairy tales is going to be better than vampires that sparkle. And maybe the amount of sparkling vampires will decrease. (Not holding my breath, but hope springs eternal.)

Even without the trip to the cannabalistic witch's gingerbread house, there's the whole "parental abandonment to starve to death/freeze/get eaten by wild animals in the woods" issue to deal with. So, yes, these kids would grow up to be adults with big, big chips on their troubled shoulders.

This does seem like a very interesting idea to explore. I could see a movie, not sure how they'll stretch it to a tv show. But it shows imagination, at least, which should always be encouraged!

...too bad I don't have a tv, lol.

Oh, I see the "film", on more careful reading. I was too busy looking at the pic. Damn, I'll have to wait til it hits the dollar theater, but I'm definitely very interested in this one! :D

I had never heard of this but now I am super excited to see it, although I'm disappointed about the lack of lederhosen in this promo picture.

Clearly they should have cast Misha Collins.

...Not that I have complaints about Jeremy Renner.
