Hahahaha oh my god.

...So that was fun. XD; I am going to have to smack Keola, oh my god, that kid is such a terrible influence.
I almost never feel like going out on a Thursday night, but we only worked a half day, so when Keola showed up with his friend Eric I'd already showered and packed my stuff and cleaned my room and eaten dinner, and I was just lounging around drinking a beer and watchingDaniel Craig's ass Cowboys and Aliens. And he invited me out to Karaoke Night at the Lava Lounge and I hadn't been in months, so I said sure, and me and Shawn and Eric hopped into 'Ola's truck and off we went.
It was super fun. Everyone was there. I sang "Born To Be Wild", and I didn't pay for any of my drinks. ...And there were a lot of drinks. Had a couple of tequila shots and a hell of a lot of beer... not sure how much exactly. Two beers before the bar, and then... two more? Maybe? At least one, but I can't actually remember. ^_^;;
I ditched out before Keola and Eric were ready to go (Shawn had already left) and ended up walking back to the house by myself. This would be like a mile in pitch dark and rain, and my flashlight was low on batteries and I was drunker than I'd ever been in my life, so drunk I could barely see straight. I chose to walk on the trails rather than the road, and had a lot of fun staggering over the uneven ground, my flashlight creating just enough illumination that I could kind of tell the difference between the path and the vegetation on either side. It's kind of a miracle I didn't fall into a steam vent or Kīlauea Caldera and DIE. Also I am really really glad I know the trails in this park so well, because at the very least I knew exactly where I was at all times, even in the pitch black, or else I never would've found the house.
Made it back safely. Threw up in my bed, LIKE A BOSS. Peeled off all the sheets and curled up backwards on the mattress, curled up in my quilt. ...I've never ever drunk myself sick before... so much for my streak! But I feel fine today, no hangover or nothing, so at least there's that.
...GUYS I MAKE EXCELLENT CHOICES.

Date: 2012-06-09 03:04 am (UTC)You could always come over here where you can keep an eye on me and make sure I stay out of trouble. :DFirst post was from KMC, so pitch dark and raining but not the woods yet. Second post was right after I got home. I did drunk!email my friend Neve from the woods though, about the time I was right on the edge of the crater and my flashlight wasn't producing photons. :D

Date: 2012-06-09 04:40 am (UTC)I kind of want to see pictures of this treacherous hike, so I know exactly how much to be frowning at my screen. ^_^

Date: 2012-06-09 05:01 am (UTC)You know, I actually do have a bunch of pictures from the very same trail from a previous daytime trek to KMC that I'm planning on including in my next picspam post... guess I'd better work on that! And the hike's not really that treacherous at all... unless you're stumbling, cross-eyed drunk and it's pitch dark and raining and your flashlight isn't working properly, which was actually the case last night, so, err... heh. It is called Crater Rim Trail for a reason. And there are a lot of steam vents and other earth cracks of the won't-cook-me-but-are-still-quite-deep-and-full-of-sharp-rocks variety that are right on the side of the trail without any sort of fence or safety rail or anything. Not always a railing in the edge of the crater either. ... :DD

Date: 2012-06-09 12:49 pm (UTC)Ah, I love it when a trail has some small measure of danger and isn't all covered in railings so you still have the option of falling to your doom. Something tells me I would like this trail a lot... during the day. Or with a working flashlight. And not drunk. ^_^

Date: 2012-06-09 07:05 pm (UTC)I agree! I used to love trail running on Mānoa Cliff Trail on O'ahu... narrow, strewn with rocks and roots, perpetually slick with mud, perched on the very very edge of a sheer cliff dropping into Mānoa Valley, no safety considerations of any sort, and there I go, hurtling down the path at a swift run, trying not to die. It was super fun!
But yeah, there are a lot of trails like that in the park. The Park Service is actually very safety conscious, but it would be impossible to fence off every one of the thousands of steam vents and earth cracks and craters and skylights, and plus it would totally ruin the wilderness experience. It's definitely a 'hold onto your children, stay on the trails, obey the safety signs, and don't be a fucking idiot' kind of park. ...I'm pretty sure I qualified for 'fucking idiot' on Thursday... but I did stay on the trail!
...COME VISIT ME I WILL TAKE YOU HIKING IN THE NATIONAL PARK IT WILL BE ENJOYABLE I KNOW ALL THE BEST TRAILS. :D Also we have lots of topography here, I know how much you enjoy that. ; )

Date: 2012-06-11 04:03 am (UTC)Ahhh, goshdarnit, I am totally going to try to actually come visit next year, once my vacation time resets itself. After my LA trip I am more than ready for a vacation that involves actually doing things outside under my own power.
Topography is a rare and treasured thing around here. It's basically required that I appreciate it. That and good weather.

Date: 2012-06-12 05:06 am (UTC)THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. Oh dear, did LA involve a lot of sitting around in air-conditioned buildings and people driving you places?

Date: 2012-06-15 03:24 am (UTC)Yeah, LA was a lot of sitting around in apartments and in cars. It was a pretty much the definition of Not My Sort of Thing. Which is a shame. I'm not sure I'm okay with there being a city out there that I don't actually like.

Date: 2012-06-09 03:48 am (UTC)No seriously, if I were anyone but me, getting lost in the jungle would've been a very real possibility... most people would've opted to use the road, but I wasn't too thrilled about the combination of pitch black, bad weather, extremely drunk Angela, and possibly inebriated drivers... figured I'd take my chances with sheer cliffs and steam cracks instead. Luckily, even drunk off my face I have a very clear map in my head of the trail system in that area, so I didn't really have to be able to see very well in order to take all the right turns and end up at my house and not, say, at the bottom of Kīlauea Iki Crater a few miles away.
I've never had a hangover in my life. STILL HOLDING STRONG!
Hahaha, appropriate song is appropriate, right? XD;
