I know right. We'll just have to do all the usual birthday stuff when I return. Like going to a corn maze. I think I'll be missing out on the swifts, though. That's pretty much September only. Maybe some cranes will come in early and we can go see them at Sauvie Island in October. Or eagles. There should be plenty of eagles there in October.
Oh yes, and caves! And we definitely should go to the beach. I'm actually going to the beach with my mom for a couple days after I get back apparently - the SF road trip thing didn't work out with my dad's work schedule. But I am definitely not against more than one trip to the beach.
It's so weird having my birthday in a place that's eternally summer. I'm so used to it being in the fall.
Well, yesterday was my birthday here. And I had work in the morning, and then we had to go sit at the DMV forever while they figured out why the registration number on the vehicle registration card didn't match the VIN on the truck. But I got some tuna kelaguen for lunch while we waited. And then we went out to Naftan Point and collected fossilized coral, and then I had cake and ice cream for dinner. Because it's too hot here to eat much so... I just skipped dinner and went straight to dessert.
But tomorrow is our Fish and Wildlife contact's birthday, too, so tonight we're all going out for a joint birthday dinner at Kuri-ya which, from what I've heard, is this tiny little Japanese restaurant that's apparently one of the best things on the island. Very authentic and a little on the pricey side, but since it's my birthday, apparently the others aren't going to let me pay for my food, haha.
