apple_pathways has put up her voice post, which means mine will go up uhhhhh (consults schedule) sometime tomorrow, I hope? So you have until then to give me things to say about Hawai‘i/in Hawaiian or Pidgin, as per my previous post. Those of you who've already made requests, you guys are awesome, hilarious, and evil. My primary work site of June and July was Kealakomo Waena, an experimental kipuka where we are attempting to determine whether we can successfully suppress alien shrubs and encourage native pili grass via controlled burns. My fellow intern slaves and I spent hours in the sun at KW running transects, measuring cover, shrub density, biomass, and fuels, checking on the vigor of marked shrubs, etc. Tomorrow we get to watch from the top of a cliff while the fire guys BURN THE FUCKER DOWN.
I am excite.
Okay, so. apple_pathways is doing a voice post meme wherein she asked us to give her words to say out loud so we can giggle at her regional accent. I, being a twat, asked her to say "Hawai‘i", and she agreed on the condition that I do a voice post in which I say it correctly.
Now, a voice post in which I do nothing but say "Hawai‘i" and hang up is pretty boring, so I thought I'd turn this into an extra-awesome Hawai‘i special-edition of the Voice Post Meme!
So. In the comments, give me words (individually or in larger, grammatically connected groups) to say in Hawaiian or Pidgin, or give me something in English and ask me to give you the translation in Hawaiian or Pidgin (note: I am not fluent in Hawaiian, so individual words only here), or ask me a question about Hawai‘i, or make some other Hawai‘i-related request. I will make a voice post at some point (afterapple_pathways makes hers, OH SNAP THE PRESSURE IS ON!) and answer all of your questions/fulfill all of your requests.
