SHERLOCK SHERLOCK OH MY GOD.

So I was super excited about "The Hounds of Baskerville", because "The Hound of the Baskervilles" is my all-time favorite Sherlock Holmes story (I was just paraphrasing it on Haleakalā, as I do, whenever there is creeping mist, and/or moors).

And.

-OH MY GOD SO SCARY.

-ALSO OH MY GOD SO HILARIOUS, I laughed so hard at the end there my mom came into my bedroom to figure out wtf was going on. XD; ...And at the beginning. And other bits.

...Next week, "The Reichenbach Fall", aaaauuuuuggghh I think I might actually die of anticipation oh my gaaaaaaaawwwwwddd~, I am so fucking excited, ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF... THAT THING. THAT I JUST MENTIONED. I MEAN REALLY WHAT IS GOING ON THERE, ASLHGALSKSHFSJLFSJ.

So I don't usually do this, get involved in the big grand moral discussions in fandom, but tonight I have Things To Say.

I've been thinking all day about the new Sherlock episode, and about the argument being made loudly across much of the internet regarding the plot and characterizations in this episode and sexism.

Me, I loved the episode. Passionately and wholly and unreservedly. It didn't even occur to me that there might be anything wrong with it until I started poking my nose around the fandom. Now, I do consider myself a feminist, and I've read the arguments and I think they're very reasonable (some especially excellent points were made in the comparison to the source material), and I'm glad the issue is being discussed... but I think every scene that has come up in discussion is open to interpretation, or at least, I interpreted them differently, and personally feel that certain other interpretations may be entirely missing the point. Maybe I'm an optimist, maybe I'm naïve, but either way this is the point at which I respectfully... well, maybe even "disagree" is too strong of a word, but I respectfully refuse to be offended.

I must ask that you believe that it is not my intention to shut down, dismiss, or offend anyone; I made my best attempt to make it clear that all of the above are my personal opinions, that my read of each scene was colored by how it resonated with my personal experiences, and that all other opinions are valid and welcomed.

Okay, so never mind that it's well past my bedtime and I don't have time for the internet these days, Dar and I just watched the first episode of Sherlock, and in the absence of the ability to lick Steven Moffat all over (aaaaaaaalllll over) I find that I am simply compelled to post a spazzflail about it. Benedict Cumberbatch, your brilliance in your portrayal of Holmes is only surpassed by the sheer, ridiculous badassery of your name. In fact, I think from now on I will always refer to you by your full name, Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch. Gods bless your parents. ...Martin Freeman, you are equally as brilliant as Watson, and I do believe I shall one day get over the fact that you remind me very strongly of John Simm (are you perhaps his secret brother?).

WHY ARE THERE ONLY GOING TO BE THREE EPISODES? Tell me there will be a second season, and it will be longer.
