Okay so today I went to see The Amazing Spiderman and omg it was fabulous, it was so fucking charming, augh I loved it so so much. Mostly AUGH I LOVE ANDREW GARFIELD SO SO MUCH. TT_TT

I mean there's this thing about me and Spidey, okay, we go way back, he has always been and always will be my favorite superhero after Batman, and also I have had a crush on him since like before I even had hormones I think. AND I AM EVEN MORE IN LOVE WITH HIM NOW. I seriously need to see the movie again just so I can gaze at him in adoration. ♥_♥ a;sdklhgalkshdflajkshdfal;s it's just, okay, I have types that I am weak to, one of them being guys that are simultaneously adorkably fail and BADASS, and Garfield's Peter Parker (and Peter Parker in general, I guess) falls squarely into this type. I just– SO AWKWARD, but not in a horribly painful, oh-god-kill-me-now, Tobey McGuire-in-Spiderman 3 kind of awkward, awkward in an OH GOD I WANT TO RUFFLE HIS HAIR AND TAKE HIM HOME WITH ME AND CUDDLE HIM AND FEED HIM COOKIES kind of adorable way. I want to do all of those things and then have HOT HOT SEX with him, because as I said, adorkable and BADASS ohemgeeeeee he's so sexy, Gwen Stacey, girl, I totally feel you, we are both in so much trouble omg. ...Seriously it's like magic, he's awkwardly adorably unbelievably fail one moment and then the next moment BAM, MEGA PIMP, like that scene on the balcony, how does he do it?!

And I kind of loved all of the almost-but-not-quite-kissing that was somehow even sexier than actual kissing, how is that possible??

Other things:

-I was amused by the remix of Uncle Ben's famous line.

-I really should be used to this by now, I mean, it's a comic book movie for Zolac's sake but OH GOD I feel like the fail!science (including computer science) was more painful than usual. T_T

-BEST. STAN LEE CAMEO. EVER. ...OF ALL TIME.

-There were a lot of kids in the theater which I actually kinda liked, because a) they're all so noisy you don't really feel guilty for making noise, and b) they have the most entertaining and honest reactions to things, it's really refreshing. (After subway train scene, Random Kid: "THAT WAS THE BEST SCENE IN THE WHOLE MOVIE." XDDDD)

So yeah anyway the whole movie was serious in all the right places and funny and adorable in all the right places and I heart crane operators and cops and I am in love with Andrew Garfield ohmigod I will need to go see that movie again next weekend maybe.

...In other news Ben Wishaw as Richard II is Sassy Gay King Jesus, I am in love with Ovid, and Teen Wolf is dumb and adorable and totally charming, and kinda like watching Spiderman AGAIN only maybe slightly watered-down.

Guys, I realize this is probably old news to, like, EVERYONE, but I live under a rock, okay, it's not my fault the rainforest doesn't come with television or convenient internet, and in case anyone else missed it, HAVE SOME FABULOUS BARACK O-SPAM.

First, let May 9, 2012 always be remembered as the day U.S. President Barack Obama said this on national news: "It is important for me personally to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married."

TT_TT BARACK BB I'M SO PROUD OF YOU~!

Have video!

It has been remarkably stormy this May and June: frequent thunderstorms, snow on both mountains, and tons of rain. (Apparently it was really dry just until I showed up... this is pretty typical for me and rainy weather. ^_^) But it cleared up a few days ago, and I saw Mauna Kea over the weekend for the first time since I got back, which is really kind of sad.

Yesterday evening was freaking glorious. As I left the house for folk dancing at around 6:45, the sun had dropped behind Mauna Kea and it was seriously one of the most beautiful Hilo sunsets I have ever seen. The sky was powder blue; the mountain in silhouette was pigeon gray with just the slightest flavor of purple. Its feet nestled in thin layer of soft cotton, and the summit was crowned by golden rays of light. The whole thing was framed by high clouds, burnished by the sun and delicate, lacy, like gold flakes. Just- GUH.

I spent the whole drive over staring at it and trying not to crash into anyone. When I got there we all stood on the upstairs porch, enjoying the view from Haili Hill of idyllic Hilo on this soft, perfect evening, Haili Street sweeping downward through old Hilo houses to Hilo Bay, Coconut Island and coconut trees, a lone sailboat anchored on the blue-gray water. We watched the sunset clouds turn from gold to tangerine sherbet and wished to vanish the power poles disturbing our view, agreeing that Mauna Kea is the most beautiful mountain in the entire freaking world.

Coming home at 9:15 it was still so clear, and the moon had set and all the stars were out, Scorpio dominating the sky to one side, the Big Dipper to the other, and so many stars in between. I turned off the carport light to look. Gods but I love living in an astronomy town; Hilo's got a population of 43,000 plus and I can see the Milky Way from my driveway. In the space of a minute I saw two shooting stars.

The amount of my happiness is immeasurable.

Speaking of happiness, I haven't told you about my job. I AM LOVING IT. I spend every day outside, in the forest or down on the coast, where it's hot and windy and there's no shade, but the sky is blue and the ocean is blue and the difference between that and a cubicle is broader than the slopes of Mauna Loa. I am doing actual honest-to-god science, and I am learning every day, and I love the people I'm working with, we all get along swimmingly. Stacey's a Waiakea grad and my neighbor; Laureen is from Réunion, France; Chico is a tough chick from Pepe‘ekeo; Susan Dale is the mother of Sarah Dale, my friend and Stacey's; and Mark is as cheerful and friendly and helpful and energetic as he sounded on the phone, and he smiles all the time and he looks a little bit like Val Kilmer. XD

Everything's been brilliant aside from the Unfortunate Saga of Mark, which a couple of you know a little about. We were supposed to go camping last week, but Mark got sick. Then he slept for 16 hours. Then he went to the hospital. Then he stayed in a hospital bed for days on an IV with antibiotics and no food. We saw him on Monday, on his feet again but pale and skinny, the poor thing. Turns out he had an inflamed appendix or something of the sort. He should be out in the field again on Friday.

So, all that and dancing half the nights of the week as well, and sometimes more hiking on the weekends. I am sore and tired and I never get enough sleep and I am SO. FREAKING. HAPPY.

Love you all. ♥

Oh my god. So I just caught up with Batman and Robin, and I cannot even describe to you the immensity of my glee. In issue 23, everyone's favorite red-headed stepchild is back, and dayum boy is fine. I have to say, Jason, the long red locks and facial hair are really working for me, for serious, never dye your hair again, babe, the ginge looks good on you. And you are a snarky bastard and hella smart and deadly as fuck and just pretty, okay, in an extremely manly sort of way, and you rock a killer smirk, and you're sitting in the prison yard reading Pride & Prejudice oh my god I fucking love you so much I can't even alskdjglakhdjsjfds.

Mad props to Guillem March and Andrei Bressan for the art in this one, although frankly neither of them should be allowed to draw children. Especially Mr. March, Jesus fuck, what have you done to Damian's face?
zolac_no_miko: (TARDIS)
OH GOD WHAT EVEN IS THIS. EVERY TIME I WATCH THE DOCTOR'S WIFE, I WANT TO WATCH IT AGAIN IMMEDIATELY.

GO TO SLEEP, ANGELA.

ETA: Spoilers in the comments, in case some of us haven't seen this yet, *COUGH*[livejournal.com profile] sirona_gs*COUGH*. ...Seriously, stay far, far away, spoilers are baaaaaaaad.

Neil Gaiman.

Always.

I will love you forever.

Thank you.

I.

I.

I just.

There's no topping that.

My opinion: that was the best episode of Doctor Who that has ever been written in forty-eight years.

No reason.

I'm back in Hilo, finally. It's raining. Heavily.

...It's nice to know there are some things in life I can depend on~. ♥ ♥ ♥
zolac_no_miko: (SCRUNCHY FACE!!)
So, I meant to do this days ago, fffff.

Under the cut: My Chemical Romance, Bad Rabbits, Black Cards, and Travie McCoy are AWESOME, teenaged fans of Gerard Way/Pete Wentz are largely ANNOYING, hanging out with said teenaged fans is AWKWARD AND EMBARRASSING, Tyler Glenn is a DOUCHEBAG, PB&J French Fries are DELICIOUS, my friends are FANTASTIC, and I think my feet may have finally stopped HURTING. )

...So at the end of the weekend I was way way underslept, and my feet hurt like a bitch, and I felt like an 80 year old cripple with a sore throat who had been beaten by sticks, but it was FUN. And I got to see [livejournal.com profile] regonym, which was supremely excellent since I don't know when the next time is that I will see her again (;_;), and I threw comics at her, and I got her into "Hawaii Five-0", we watched five episodes, bwaha~. So that was awesome.

Bright Eyes concert this weekend, whoo!
zolac_no_miko: (Neal Caffrey)
THIS WEEK'S WHITE COLLAR WAS SEXY AS FUCK.

So the only Ludo I've ever listened to is their album You're Awful, I Love You, which has some pretty good songs, and some pretty goddamn freaking excellent songs. I figured I ought to look up the rest of their music if I'm gonna go see them on Tuesday. Their new album Prepare the Preparations is all pretty good... I'll have to listen to it some more to form a definite opinion, I think.

Broken Bride - EP, on the other hand... OH MY GOD. Love at first hearing. It is the story of a man whose fiancée dies in an automobile accident on a morning in May in 1989, their wedding day. The man, heartbroken, builds a time machine in an attempt to go back in time and save her. He ends up lost in time, searching for her. It is brilliant and fantastic and tragic and silly and BEAUTIFUL. I bought it immediately, and cannot recommend it enough. <3 Ludo, the crazy, ridiculous, poetical bastards.

Appropriate icon is appropriate, obviously. Is that the Cloister Bell I can hear at the end of Save Our City?
