Wow, so it's been a busy few days. Time for one of Angela's Super Mega Posts!

Look under cut for four days of downtown adventures, corn, larping, and two rock concerts in a row. :D )

...Soooo, yeah. I'm still kind of recovering from all that. I'm trying to take advantage of my time of joblessness and get shit done. ...So far I've been moderately successful. But omg I've been getting so much sleep. T_T It's truly wonderful, let me tell you.
zolac_no_miko: (noel fielding)
So last weekend was kind of a little bit productive and a lot lazy. I spent all day Saturday downtown by myself again, as I like to do once in a while. This time I wore more sensible shoes. I ransacked all of the thrift stores downtown for Vince Noir costume elements (that's right, it's October... Halloween costume time!); only one of them was any good. Buffalo Exchange, I heart you. I now have the perfect and most excellent pair of white cowboy boots, a lime green studded belt, and a jangly piece of jewelry comprising three chains and a lot of fake gold coins that is downright piratical. I also picked up an awesome army jacket and a fabulous leather jacket with fuzzies on the inside that I love so very very very much, but that wasn't costume stuff. Now all I need is the cowboy hat and my electro-poof will be complete; by the time I got to the Outdoor Store it was closed. At that point I was getting a bit hungry, it being dinner time and all, so I snagged a Vietnamese sandwich and a Thai iced tea from an open-late lunch truck, walked myself over to Pioneer Courthouse Square, and sat on the brick steps with my earbuds in and The Decemberists on, eating and watching the sky-light dim. Then I swung by Ben & Jerry's for dessert before hitting the Pioneer Place cinemas for The Informant. EXCELLENT movie, btw; hilarious. Matt Damon, I heart you. The rest of the weekend was spent marathoning TV shows on our laptops. Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Bones, The X-Files, Dollhouse, Kings. Oh man oh man. Good stuff. And then Will took us out for dinner at the best sushi restaurant ever (you should see the gigantic portions of fish hanging off of their nigiri, holy crap), and we went to his mom's house to meet her and his new dog Tobias and eat pie and walk to Council Crest in the dark.

Yesterday we watched Zombieland. SEE THIS MOVIE. It was, like, way more awesome than I thought it would be. Like, it was actually quality. Not stupid funny, but funny funny. And majorly badass. And actually quite touching. The characters were actual people. And you couldn't help picking out examples of Columbus' list. The whole movie I'm like, "Limber Up. Cardio. DOUBLE TAP, DOUBLE TAP!! :DD" Also, this will significantly affect my experience at carnivals and amusement parks for the rest of my life.

Coming up- Saturday we're having a major group outing that may involve... I dunno, between 6 and 9 people. There will be dim sum at our favorite place in Chinatown, followed by a roadtrip out to Sauvie Island to spot some birds, conquer a corn maze, and buy some pumpkins and other assorted squashes. It will be goodtimes.

Next week I am being a bad girl and trading sleep for concerts. Monday is ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead at Dante's downtown. Lauren and I are all over that shit, oh man. And then Tuesday we two plus Dar are driving down to Eugene to go gypsy-crazy at the Gogol Bordello concert at the McDonald Theater. ...Man I love being young and irresponsible.

So anyway I've been working on this meme for several weeks. Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] salt_of_the_egg, with some minor editing so it makes more sense away from its home territory of Faceblargh. I also included song and album titles, because I could. The meme doth not require it.

Using only song lyrics from ONE ARTIST, cleverly answer these questions. You can't use the band I used. Try not to repeat a song title. It's a lot harder than you think!

Three guesses which band I chose. )

Friday I took a couple of buses over to Lauren's house. I had a long conversation with a very nice, cute, and slightly ADD guy named Doug... we talked about Stephen King, books, movies, college, where we've lived, and what we want to do with our lives. Lauren picked me up from the Park and Ride and we ate tacos in her kitchen while her parents chilled in the family room, drinking wine and listening to Metric's "Live It Out" on high volume. We spent some quality time working on Aphelion before Lauren took me home, having to go to bed earlyish so she could go trapping for her kestrel. My friend Becca texted me to announce joyously that she had proposed to her girlfriend, and she had said yes, which was wondrous news. It's a good thing me and Dar were there to help her pick out the ring; obviously it was a winner. :DD

Saturday I slept in real late, then spent some time writing. Around midday Dar and I went to the community center and *GASP!* worked out at the gym. We did 20 mins on the ellipticals, did a sampling of most of the weight equipment, and finished up with a short jog on the treadmills- my first workout in a gym EVER in my life. Which is even stranger than it sounds, as I've been a regular athlete since I was five. I guess I've always been a bit disdainful of gyms, preferring to get my workout doing sports, preferably outside. But it was hella fun. And we've bought a 20-visit pass, so we'll be going regular, hopefully. Afterwards we loosened up doing a few laps in the pool. I climbed the rope again (which is a lot harder after a hard workout, ohmigod), we went down the waterslide, and then finally boiled our muscles in the hot tub as a preventative measure. I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow anyway.

Feeling sufficiently like we'd been pummeled by meat tenderizers and injected with happy drugs, we went to pick up Lauren, whose kestrel-catching venture was a bust, alas. Next week, perhaps- fingers crossed! We showered and ate salmon-salad sandwiches and bean salad, and Lauren and I marathoned the very first episodes of Doctor Who (OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH BECCA). We also watched a few episodes of Snuff Box, which is FUCKING BIZARRE and also amazing and awesome.

Today is also the birthday of Jesse Hajicek, one of my favorite writers. As a gift to him I have written a few shorts and drabbles about Star and Zander, the main characters of his fabulous webcomic, Metanoia (for non-Riversiders, you may remember Star from my pr0n earlier this month). Remember those drabbles I asked for, for my Sekrit Projekt? Yeah, this is them. I only had time and inspiration for four, oh well. If you're interested, here they are (cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] riverside_hq), and thank you so much for the prompts!

So this weekend our friend Eli came to visit from Seattle. He's from Hilo originally; Dar had a class with him in high school, and my family's known his family since small-kid time. He's certainly changed a lot. It was fun to catch up with him and hear what his family's been up to (his baby sister Leina‘ala is all grown up now in college- and gay!! this is so weird for me, I used to be her tita...). Anyway, it worked out well because we all have a lot in common, like our particular breed of nerdiness... nerdy-but-still-functional-in-society.

So anyway, Friday I worked short hours... I started 40 minutes late because a giant truck was blocking Corbett and my first bus couldn't get past. I was standing at Barbur waiting for the light to change so I could get to my bus stop across the street when my second bus went past. And then call volume dropped down in the late afternoon (after being super high all day, and all fucking week) and they were asking for volunteers to go home early and I was like OH GOD OH PLEASE YES. Normally I wouldn't, cuz I like the money, but with Eli coming in I figured what the hell.

Eli showed up and we went to Koji for Happy-Hour cheap sushi, appetizers, and beer before grabbing some cash and a bus and heading downtown. Chris caught me on the phone briefly and told me more stories about her awesome new stunt-team friends, and how they did an unrated show late at night at the Pirate Festival (pirates pole-dancing, WHOOHOO) and how she's learning bullwhip, which is fucking awesome.

Under this cut: drunken tomfoolery and other weekend shenanigans. )

Eli's taken off, and I've spent the evening being a complete slug, hanging out on the couch and poking around on LJ. My weekend's almost over, *sob*. And argh I need to do laundry.

Tomorrow Lauren and I will go to see Moon! :DD

So last Friday Dar, Becca, Ducky, and Jarvis came to pick me up. We stopped off briefly at Burgerville- that place is made of AWESOME by the way- and the other girls ate a quick dinner. I got a lemonade and a salad for later; I was still digesting the massive amount of food from the Epiq BBQ/Call Center Potluck, and allowing my the content of my veins to return to being blood instead of rootbeer. ...Francis brought a keg of rootbeer to the potluck. A KEG. And two gallons of ice cream. I love that man. And also rootbeer floats. I had two of them. ...And then a third cup of just rootbeer. :DD

So anyway after they ate their foods we piled into Jarvis and took off into the wild blue yonder (I-5 South). There was much awesome music and gossiping and Metanoia fiction read-alouds and plotting and giggling and watching of sunsets and spazz-flailing about the gorgeous scenery and trying to identify mountains in the dark and receiving bacon at the rest stop bathrooms. ...It was kind of an interesting experience beginning the drive in daylight and driving ALL NIGHT and reaching our destination in daylight again. Dar drove the whole way like a crazy madman, very very very highly caffeinated. We met some interesting people gas stations, like the farmboys in their barn-turned-Shell who offered free hot drinks with a purchase of gas (code for "free drinks for cute girls"), and the dude in Tiny Nowhereville California at 2 (or was it 4?) in the morning and his adorable friendly dog Malachi (LOL!)

Cut for my usual incessant rambling. )

...I'm really tired now. I'mma watch some Teen Titans (research! :D) while I brush my hair, and then pass the hell out.

Friday
While I was slaving away at work, Becca and Ducky arrived at the Greyhound station after a long ride north from San Jose, and Melissa pulled into town after a drive from Walla Walla in her minivan. After some text-message coordination, they offered to come pick me up after work. The last half hour was torture, and when 5:59 clicked over to 6:00 I whooped, "FREEDOM!" and all but burst from the building. Within seconds Jarvis was pulling up and I packed myself in with Dar, James, Becca, and Melissa until we resembled a sardine can with a good sound system. And things got a little silly.

The goofy party atmosphere stuck with us the rest of the evening. I hadn't seen Melissa since May, and I hadn't seen Becca since freaking... I dunno, winter sometime? Fall? A long time ago anyway... she's been marooned in Scotland. ...Not marooned in a bad way. Marooned in an awesome way. Like the Swiss Family Robinson. ...Anyway. So, five (later, six) girls, giddy with being reunited, hanging out together in a group, and having a gorgeous summer weekend to celebrate. Imagine the giggling, and the loudness, the yelling to be heard over each other, the dancing around, and general silliness.

From work we went straight to Uwajimaya (Mimi somehow managed to predict that, strangely). We whizzed about buying tasty Asian foods and being ridiculous, eying the Giant Dongle Clams and indulging in such activities as the Three-Way Skirt-Wearing Bro-Fist (as Becca says, "I think I've seen a porno with that title..."). Then we headed back and Dar did her badass grill thing, and everyone took turns playing badminton with James except me, I just sat around being a lazy ass and djing on my computer and drinking chilled white wine. So then we sat under the giant shady tree and had bao and gyoza and rice and grilled salmon and grilled eggplant and grilled asparagus and grilled Walla Walla sweet onions (OHMIGOD SO TASTY~!!) as the light faded from the sky.

Then we all piled into the car and went to see Harry Potter, blasting wizard rock all the way. The 9:50 show was sold out, so we chilled in Borders for an hour, and I spent some of my Christmas-giftcard-from-Don purchasing MY SOUL The Dark Knight... oh man as soon as I have time there will be some Batman-y goodness in my life. The Harry Potter movie was AMAZING, as I'm sure everyone who doesn't live under a rock has heard. So many AMAZING awkward moments, omg, and fabulous performances from the side characters, and Draco being OMG SO EMO ALL THE TIME LURK LURK LURK EMO EMO. The movie was like, 99% awesome, excepting the wtf-Burrow-fire scene that everyone's been wanking about, and the wtf-is-this-bad-writing-shit scene with Harry and Ginny in the room of requirement.

Look under cut for Saturday and Sunday )

Work was crap today, and I was tired, and the air conditioning was broken. But Dar, James, and Becca came to pick me up, which was nice, and Dar made taro bubble-teas for all, which was also nice, and we let the cute Oregon hippie dude talk us into paying a few dollars extra for wind power, which was environmentally conscious.

We've been sitting around all evening going ARGH HEAT while Becca read Edward And Bella Can Suck It and Dar painted her and Ducky's nails and I hid in my room and wrote this epic gigantic LJ post. As is my wont.

I love my life.

To all my American friends... Happy Independence Day! Whoo fireworks and barbecues and three-day weekend, whoo!

To all my friends from other countries... Happy Amurrican Supremacy Day, ya damned foreigners!! ...Yeah, see this is why we don't have any allies anymore. ...Oh no wait. That would be George W. Bush.

Oh btw, has everyone heard that Sarah Palin announced she's quitting being Alaska's governor? Wtf? You guys should listen to her speech, it is SO WEIRD. ...That woman scares me.

...James wants me all to tell you she says HIIIIIIIIIIIIII~! :D :D

SO. This weekend was AMAZING.

Friday morning was stressful again, and the last couple hours in the afternoon were slow and torture... but then I was out, and it was blue-sky-sunny-beautiful and I had a handful of cherries and it was the weekend and life was beautiful. ...That was the only good thing about last week. This dude with a couple of cherry trees in the empty lot next to his house kept bringing baskets of fresh cherries in to share.

So anyway, I eat cherries all the way along the walk to my car, joyfully flinging stems and spitting seeds into the lawns and flower beds of various businesses. And then I drove my ass out of there, blasting the iPod, and stopping only to grab myself a Chalupa and Pina Colada from Taco Bell. It was a long pleasant drive, all sun-through-the-green-trees in the Coast Range, and I hit Newport just after sunset, so it was all soft-glowy and gorgeous, with that beautiful bridge arcing over the bay.

It wasn't hard to find Lauren's trailer; I said hi to her trailer-mate, dropped my stuff, and settled down for a snack of chicken strips, corn fritters, and Lauren's fresh-baked, fresh-picked, huckleberry-salmonberry tarts. We marathoned Red vs. Blue, seasons 1 and 2, then hit the sack around 1.

So Saturday was EPIC and Sunday was FREAKING AWESOME; click to find out why. )

Today was actually not stressful. Maybe I'm getting the hang of this Multi-Case thing. Maybe I lucked out and got easy calls today. Maybe both. Anyway, it was nice. Hopefully the rest of the week will be like this. Anyway, NO WORK ON FRIDAY!!! :DDD So that's a good thing. I'm going to see about setting off/watching fireworks this weekend. Other than that, I'm planning on going NOWHERE all weekend. We can have some more travel shenanigans some other time. And we will~.
zolac_no_miko: (Hello IT.)
So on Friday I get called in to this meeting, and they tell me and a few other people that because we are just so freaking awesome on the phones, they're bumping us up to Multi-Case on Monday. See, before I was doing multi-case; now I'm doing Multi-Case. Before, I had several cases, and they would add more to my queue every few days, maxing out at a little more than 15 by last Friday. Now I could get a call on any case, theoretically... that's like, 125+... without training. This upgrade in responsibility, unfortunately, does not come with an upgrade in pay. Ah, the life of a temp. Le sigh. They try to sucker us into this by inflating our egos. Among other things, Vince told us we are "the elite." ...IT TOTALLY WORKS. I can't help it that the fact that I'm apparently hella freaking good at my job, and at every job I've ever had (people keep using words like "responsible", "intelligent", and "best"), makes me extremely pleased with myself. ...And anyway, as Vince also pointed out, and as I'd figured out earlier, we've got better job security, and even possible futures working for the company (oh joy). So I left work on Friday feeling pretty smug.

...FYI, being Multi-Case SUCKS. The call comes in, and I'm like *FLAIL* WBRGKZLMNAOACKLGHZ *FLAIL*WHERE'S THE GREETING SCRIPT?! And if I don't fail completely and miss the call, chances are I've never even heard of the case before, so when the caller asks me questions I'm like "A-durrrrrr, wha?" because they know more about the case than I do, and I can only scan the FAQs so quickly, and the caller usually picks up on my hesitation and the fact that I SOUND LIKE A MORON and get argumentative. On top of this bullshit call volume has been high, the calls I've been getting have been REALLY HARD and involve a lot of running around and fetching supervisors and doing callbacks, and I got called in today by the Adecco reps to discuss my apparent recent rash of tardiness (which, as I explained to them, was do to my computer breaking, and also my bus breaking). So, this week has been pretty stressful.

I had an awesome weekend backpacking along the PCT south of Mt. Hood with Richard, near Frog Lake and Little Crater Lake. The weather was off-and-on sprinkling but otherwise decent, and the trail didn't involve stunning vistas, but the trees were pretty. Our campsite was a really nice one under the trees next to a lake, and there were ducks and geeses and things, and a chorus of frogs at night. We did 9ish or 10ish miles each day, and I managed to survive without destroying my legs and feet too terribly badly, or getting too sunburned, or getting too many mosquito bites. :DD

This weekend I'm driving out to the Coast to hang with Lauren, like we'd planned to do earlier in the month, only this time with less fail. Also, Dar's gone home to Hawaii and James is opting to enjoy some alone time, so I'm going by myself. So it'll be just me and Lauren, yay! We make a good Adventure Duo (specifically, Chip and Dale, Rescue Rangers, btw... she's Chip, I'm Dale), I think, because we have damn near identical interests, and neither of us have phobias. ...No offense, phobics. This means that if there are bugs and spiders and starfish and caves, we will fucking revel in them. Revel, I say. >:D ...This is not to imply I do not enjoy Adventuring with Dar and James as well. Because, you know, I do. But. Still. Sometimes it's just nice to be like... SUPER ROOMMATE TWIN POWERS... ACTIVATE!! ...If ya know what I mean. ^_^

Finally, all you people waiting on my beta services, ARGH SORRY ARGH, I just have not had the time or energy for anything involving thinking this week. ;_; I am excited about your stories, and I will get to them, promise!
zolac_no_miko: (God-King of Hostilistan)
So while I was in Honolulu they moved me to a new desk. I will miss our group! T_T But Mimi's still there, and the other people near me are cool. The guy sitting next to me is an outgoing redhead dude named Lucas, who's totally awesome, even if he is leaving me already for a new job. We spent like all day Friday chatting about Miyazaki movies, anime, Star Trek, and science fiction franchises. Also he got the WEIRDEST CALL EVER. Weird as in it seemed totally normal until the weird part, which came out of the blue. He got a call on the PGE Refund line, some lady from Portland, he filed a claim for her over the phone, blah blah, he read her her confirmation code, spelling out each letter like we're required to, "Y as in Yellow, I as in Igloo, P as in Paul"... and then she spells it back, okay, to double check, and she's like, "D as in Deathcamp...." ...WTF?! It totally threw him off for the rest of the call, and we've been laughing about it ever since. Like, seriously, wtf?! WHO SAYS THAT?! WHY WOULD YOU THINK OF SUCH A THING?!

This weekend was super lazy. I spent all day Saturday marathoning Battlestar Galactica, and then I went to Crystal's Chocolate Party. We ate brownie bites and fudge and triple chocolate fudge cake, and dipped angel food cake bites and strawberries in a chocolate fountain, and we watched Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and gossiped about ex-boyfriends. It was fantastic. Oh, and she cut my hair, thank Zolac.

Cut for WTFery Day at work today. )

And also... meme!

stolen from [livejournal.com profile] salt_of_the_egg

1. Put your music player (iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc etc etc) on shuffle.
2. For the first twenty-five songs that come up- and no cheating!- post the first line of the song.
3. If the title of the song comes up in the line, you have two options: you may replace the title with (song title here) or, if that would make it too obvious, you may skip the song. This is the only time you should skip a song! Skipping embarassing 90s pop songs takes the fun out of it, guys.
4. Let your friends guess the songs.
