So I have a whole pile of completely unrelated stuff to post about, and rather than spam you all with, like, eight different posts, I'm just going to cram things haphazardly into this one. It's going to be incredibly schizophrenic. ...Time to make a list!

-Fic rec! Found Where the Light Drowns by [livejournal.com profile] odditycollector. It's 1600 words of Batfic, Tim POV, but uh... even if you're not into Batfandom, maybe consider reading it anyway? All you need to know is Tim Drake is one of a series of Robins to Bruce Wayne's Batman, and his parents, like Bruce's and like most Robins, are dead. Anyway. This fic. It's beautiful and strange and takes the Batman mythos in an interesting direction. I kind of love it.

-Fic rec! Apple Seeds by [livejournal.com profile] pprfaith. 3700 words of X-Men: First Class fic, may be a little bit triggery (read the warnings) but... oh my god, so beautiful. And it made me think. And it made me see Charles in a completely different way. And it made me hurt a little. My heart is for serious broken now guys, and I completely love it. The insight in this piece... just, GUH. Read it already, what are you waiting for.

-...! Idk, does this count as a meme? The Geek Zodiac; I am Year of the Alien, what are you?

-Doctor Who! So there was that episode this evening. Um. I have such completely mixed feelings about it, I can't quite process. On the one hand, A LOT OF GREAT STUFF. On the other hand... too much stuff crammed into one episode? On the gripping hand... kind of poorly written, I thought; was surprised it was one of Moff's, although considering hand number one I guess I shouldn't have been. ...Basically nothing in the ep went at all like I would have predicted. And. The thing I want to say about Hitler which is kind of a spoiler. Fuck. EVERYTHING IS SPOILERS.

-H50 Season 2 trailer! )

-Video rec! )

-The icon meme! )

-That's it there is nothing else! I was going to post pictures and words pertaining to today's horseback riding adventure, but that's going to have to wait because I am LE TIRED.

Or rock and roll, close enough.

LISTEN UP, KIDS!

So, a lovely little band called Portugal. The Man played at Lollapalooza last night, and all of their shit got jacked. ALL OF IT. Trailer, van, all of their gear, everything. They are heartbroken and freaking out.

A couple of my friends have started a Twitter campaign to try and help them recover their stuff; visit [livejournal.com profile] look_alive's LJ post HERE for the list of the equipment including serial numbers, description of the van, incentives, information about the band, etc. If you've got a Twitter, re-Tweet like the devil. If you're on other social media, repost repost repost! If you want to be really proactive they've put together Gdoc spreadsheets of area pawn shops so you can claim shops, call them, and ask if they have an email address you could send the equipment lists and serial numbers to. Or you can canvass local Craigslist or eBay postings for matching items.

A lot of people have jumped on board with this, including The Mountain Goats and Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship, but every little bit helps, so get out there and BOOST THAT SIGNAL!

HOW HAS THIS SONG BEEN OUT FOR OVER A MONTH AND I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT?

Luther. John Luther, I... I love you. I've been saying forever that you are secretly Batman, but... I think I love you more right now. More than Batman. I hope you appreciate what that means, coming from me. Because you don't have Batman's money or training, just stainless steel balls the size of cantaloupes, fuzzy gray morals, a gorgeous beautiful brainy box, and about ten metric tons of motherfucking swagger. Darling. You are my hero.

And your show is my favorite shoooooooooow.

I want more. ;_;

Fantastic live music three nights in a row, what a treat! ^_^ And my uncle Gary and cousin Darian are here, yaaaaaaay! They're off for two nights camping at Napau Crater tomorrow. *jealous*

Mom was on O‘ahu for work today, wasn't going to be home until almost 8. So I cooked. I made chili with quinoa and a salad. The chili was motherfucking delicious if I do say so myself~.

Soooo full of chili, soooooo full.

So apparently Johnny Depp is a twentieth cousin to Queen Elizabeth.

I find this hilarious.

Hahahahaha, sleep, what is that? At least I didn't watch that Doctor Who ep again. Instead, recs!

1. Everybody read Crime and Medicine by eleveninches. I am seriously in love with this person's brain; I am amazed and baffled as to how the hell they thought this up. This is just absolutely the most brilliant sequel to Inception; the author expands the universe in the most incredibly natural way, except for how all the important bits are incredibly surprising and unexpected and unique. I admit I fumbled around in confusion at the beginning until I figured out what was going on, but then it was just this delightful ride of suspense and danger and the most gigantic, nerdiest pile of nerd references ever collected in one place. It makes me so happy, seriously, just read it.

[livejournal.com profile] look_alive, I kind of want to read it to you.

2. I give you this song. Um, idek, it came on the radio as I was driving back down the coast from Honoka‘a, and I NEEDED IT FOR MY LIFE. California reggae, what even. I think perhaps there's too much reggae in the air in Hawai‘i, if you're not careful you breathe it in and it infects your brain. I have no idea what exactly it is about this song that I like, but I do like it. It makes me happy. *shrug* Perhaps it's just that it's exactly what I needed to be listening to, alone in the cab of a dented purple pick-up truck, driving down the highway in the dark on a warm, clear, fragrant night in Hawai‘i.

In other news, my shoulder hurts. D: Stupid tetanus shot.
zolac_no_miko: (SCRUNCHY FACE!!)
So there's this show on MTV called "Silent Library". It's a riff off of Japanese game shows, and it is unexpectedly hilarious, painful, and endearing. The idea is six friends compete together, they draw cards each round to see who has to undergo the surprise challenge. If the victim completes the challenge and the whole group avoids making too much noise (we're in a library, see, you have to be quiet), they win the money for that round, starting at $300 and going up. It's endearing because it's really cute to watch a group of bros, and then a group of WWE wrestlers, giggling and shushing each other and making sympathetic heart hands at each other. It's painful because oh my god some of the challenges. Some of them are just silly, like holding a pizza while your friends shoot the toppings at you with air guns, but then some are gross, like sitting in a nest and being fed a foul-tasting liquid by somebody dressed as a bird, or drinking a baby bottle full of fish water in twenty seconds, or eating a cookie made with coffee grounds and toothpaste in twenty seconds, and some are painful, like getting your hands slammed in a copy machine or having to sit at the end of a factory conveyor belt that drops cans on your junk or getting your nipples clamped and pulled by one of those automated horse races.

IT'S RIDICULOUS.

Later we were channel surfing, and there was some ghost show... on Animal Planet, I ask you, what even. Remember when television made sense? There was history on the History Channel, and the Animal Planet had animals. NOT GHOSTS. ...Anyway, this house had a wraith in it, and this team went in to BATTLE THE WRAITH, and they were burning sage and lighting saint candles and using holy water... and I was having a really hard time not giggling. [livejournal.com profile] look_alive, I think you know why. ♥
zolac_no_miko: (New Patrick likes ties.)
HEY. HEY. SO WHO'S GOING TO THE EMERALD CITY COMIC CON? Besides me and [livejournal.com profile] magusronin, that is.

HAVE YOURSELVES SOME VERY NICE SPAM. :D

First off, do yourselves all a favor and watch this video. If Patrick Stump's beautiful voice and beautiful face do not already fill your heart with joy, this video ought to. It is full of happy song and happy people doing REALLY AWESOME happy things, and there is a happy dog and Patrick is happy too. And adorable. WARNING: WATCHING THIS VIDEO MAY MAKE YOU HAPPY.

Another Robot Chicken clip, courtesy of Ivan. It's pretty freaking excellent, actually.

Star Trek: Le Wrath di Khan (Opera)

...I need a Star Trek icon. It's very sad that the closest I can get is Doctor Who.
zolac_no_miko: (Joker (B:TAS))
Due to a conversation I had with Ivan the other day, he is now aware of what a gigantic Batman nerd I am. And so, because he is wonderful, he gave me these links to Batman-related Robot Chicken skits. <3

Batman, Two Face, Hot Chocolate.

Jingle bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg~!

Two things.

The Adventures of Sexy Batman on "Hark! A Vagrant". Your liver might explode from laughter. Or you might curl into a quivering ball of terror. Or both.

The music video for "The City", Patrick Wolf's new song from his new album, soon to be released. Booming piano. Epic drums. A saxophone. A beach. The 1980s. Top of the morning!
zolac_no_miko: (Alice Morgan - Brownie's honor)
I'm actually a cheerful, sweet, and nice person, I swear.

So my new favorite song of the day is "Fake Palindromes" by Andrew Bird. I'm more-or-less in line with this interpretation of the song because I need other people to tell me what to think about things. It's really worth reading, but for those of you who are all teal deer, the gist is that "Fake Palindromes" is a response to the implied violence in "I've Got Blood In My Eyes For You" by the Mississippi Sheiks (I couldn't find the Sheiks on YouTube; I've provided Mitchell Wilson's cover, which is probably pretty true to form aside from cutting a few verses, although I could've just as easily provided Bob Dylan's version). I've been listening to both songs all morning and...

"Fake Palindromes" is female empowerment and violence and murder and revenge and a protagonist with sociopathic/serial-killer tendencies, so... really, what more could I want from a song? ...Here, have some lyrics:

my dewy-eyed disney bride, what has tried
swapping your blood with formaldehyde
monsters
whiskey-plied voices cried fratricide
jesus don't you know that you could've died
you should've died
with the monsters that talk, monsters that walk the earth

and she's got red lipstick and a bright pair of shoes
and she's got knee high socks, what to cover a bruise
she's got an old death kit she's been meaning to use
she's got blood in her eyes, in her eyes for you
she's got blood in her eyes for you

certain fads, stripes and plaids, singles ads
they run you hot and cold like a rheostat, i mean a thermostat
so you bite on a towel
hope it won't hurt too bad

my dewy-eyed disney bride, what has tried
swapping your blood with formaldehyde
what monsters that talk, monsters that walk the earth

and she says i like long walks and sci-fi movies
if you're six foot tall and east coast bred
some lonely night we can get together
and i'm gonna tie your wrists with leather
and drill a tiny hole into your head
and i'm gonna drill a tiny hole into your-

In other news, I read that Cpt. Jack Harkness/Mayhem fic that someone did for Yuletide (because apparently my destiny is in the hands of [livejournal.com profile] evilhippo this morning). And yes, Mayhem, that would be the guy from the Allstate commercials. Just... LOL. Omg, wow... internet/fandom, ilu sometimes.

So, Gothamites on my Flist... "Battle for the Sun" by Placebo... perfect anthem for Jason Todd, y/y? (Go on, give it a listen. Try not to get distracted by how pretty Brian Molko is. Listen to it twice if you need to.) Like... kind of creepily perfect, actually, every single word of it. I noticed quite some time ago, but the more I listen to it the more distracting it becomes.

He could be addressing the Joker, or Bruce, or Dick, or all three of them at the same time or at different parts of the song, depending on how you want to interpret things, or how metaphorical you'd like to get. Also, slashy overtones with your pairing of choice! (I'd go for Jay/Dick myself, although Jay/Bruce certainly happens in fic. ...Jay/Joker... ahaha, ew, but... I've seen creepier, more improbable things in fandom... that could be kind of fun actually, if written well, and twisted in just the right way....)

While we're on the subject of Jason and Placebo, "For What It's Worth" (look more like a girl, Brian, I dare you) reminds me of him a little bit, too, although less so. I think about 90% of that is just the bridge: No one cares when you're out on the street, picking up the pieces to make ends meet. No one cares when you're down in the gutter; got no friends, got no lover.

...Basically, I just really love that album. Even the bits that don't make me think of Batfamily.

Well, I've already overslept and will be quite late for work, so... let's post some nerd spam.

First off, Thor trailer! It has... hmmm... The Black Swan Natalie Portman in it. I am ambivalent. It's going to be released almost exclusively in 3-D. I am annoyed. But it has Idris Elba as Heimdall omg yaaaaay! And Anthony Hopkins is Odin. And I'm amused that the main cast member with the Scandinavian last name is the one who is not a Norse god.

Anyway, meh, I'm kinda vaguely interested (but Idris Elba! :D), but I've never read any of the Thor comics so I'm not sure how much I care. More importantly... Batman!

It's hard to separate fact from rumor on the internet but... regarding Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, I believe it is fact that Tom Hardy has been cast (OMG YAY), and rumor that he will be playing Dr. Hugo Strange. Exciting~!

An addendum to my DCU-associated song list. Dammit, I knew I forgot stuff.

"King of Sorrow" by Sade - Another Tim song. You know how, within a fairly short time period, he loses his parents, his girlfriend Steph, his best friends Kon and Bart, Bruce, and his identity as Robin? Granted, he got Steph, Bart, and Kon back, and he knows now that Bruce is alive, but... JESUS CHRIST. How did this kid get out of bed every morning? "I'm crying everyone's tears... I have already paid for all my future sins" indeed. TIM YOU GIANT WOOBIE, COME HERE, YOU NEED A HUG. T_T

"Hey Mickey" by Toni Basil - Lolololol. Replace "Mickey" with "Dickie". 'Nuff said. I think this song fairly neatly expresses how every woman in the DCU feels about Dick Grayson. XDDD;

Also, [livejournal.com profile] bluerose16 found this for me:
Well then. on Twitpic

So the only Ludo I've ever listened to is their album You're Awful, I Love You, which has some pretty good songs, and some pretty goddamn freaking excellent songs. I figured I ought to look up the rest of their music if I'm gonna go see them on Tuesday. Their new album Prepare the Preparations is all pretty good... I'll have to listen to it some more to form a definite opinion, I think.

Broken Bride - EP, on the other hand... OH MY GOD. Love at first hearing. It is the story of a man whose fiancée dies in an automobile accident on a morning in May in 1989, their wedding day. The man, heartbroken, builds a time machine in an attempt to go back in time and save her. He ends up lost in time, searching for her. It is brilliant and fantastic and tragic and silly and BEAUTIFUL. I bought it immediately, and cannot recommend it enough. <3 Ludo, the crazy, ridiculous, poetical bastards.

Appropriate icon is appropriate, obviously. Is that the Cloister Bell I can hear at the end of Save Our City?
