So, I'm in Hilo. It's very nice here. Warm. Full of tropical fruits. I've got things to post, but I'm exhausted, so that'll probably happen tomorrow. Probably with pictures. I just needed to say....

Oh. My. God. ...So I'm near an actual television set that's actually on that's actually tuned in to an actual television channel for once (I can count the number of times that's happened this month on one hand, I think), and GUESS WHAT'S ON?

The world premiere of Top Gear, America-edition.

It started with my Dad coming in and being like, "Angela, you will not believe this, they've got a Dodge Viper racing a Cobra attack helicopter on the History Channel." (For you non-Americans, the History Channel, which once showed historical programs, now shows things like Ice Road Truckers and The Most Dangerous Catch.) And I was like, "Huh, sounds like Top Gear." And we were watching it, and I was busily explaining to my father what Top Gear was and why it was awesome... and then it WAS Top Gear.

I spent half the show being snooty and doubtful (American Top Gear, ffffff), but I think I've decided I'm fairly pleased with it. They've faithfully reproduced the look of the studio and the schnazzy editing style and the silly car shenanigans, and the guys are fun and knowledgeable and talkative and competitive. They have a "Big Star, Small Car" section... their Small/Reasonably Priced Car is a Suzuki, and their first star driver was BUZZ ALDRIN, HOLY SHIT.

And they even have The Stig... or I guess it's a Stig. Their judgmental Stig banner is actually a video screen, on which he occasionally crosses and recrosses his arms while judging you. They don't introduce him with weird jokes, but I think the Americans wouldn't get what was going on anyway. And American Stig doesn't listen to anything while he drives. Sad day.

I can't help thinking things like, "THE BRITISH TRACK IS PROBABLY WAY MORE HARDCORE" and "I BET ORIGINAL STIG CAN BEAT THE PANTS OFF AMERICAN STIG"... but on the whole, it looks like a fun time. And maybe they'll even acquire quirky personalities and in-jokes and ridiculousness, which is what makes the original so fun.

Next episode is drift-racing. With the legally blind.

Lol, something hilarious happened at work today. The account we've been working on has been running down, so the past week or so we've been getting all the claims that were mailed past the March 6 postmark deadline, and a lot of them include "I'M SORRY IT'S LATE HERE'S MY EXCUSE PLEASE ACCEPT THIS ANYWAY!!" notes. So today Crystal gets my attention to show me this letter from this guy who's like, "I'm sorry it's late, my wife was experiencing digestive problems and she had to go into surgery, we've been kind of busy with that, please accept this anyway!"... including dated photographs of some doctor's gloved hand holding his wife's gallbladder. ...FREAKING GALLBLADDER. GORY PHOTGRAPHS OF. INCLUDED IN THE CLAIM FORM.

...BEST CLAIM EVER. My entire row had a good long laugh about that. The amusing post script is that the pictures were dated February 20, so his excuse isn't even valid.

So anyway. Yeah. That was funny.

...Oh, and the other hilarious thing that happened at work today was we all got laid off! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA~!! Oh yeah! Hilarious~!

Actually, in perfect seriousness, I don't even really care. I'm sure that will change if I don't get another job soon. Meanwhile, I have enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and lots of leisurely reading of old rp threads and logs, and lots of leisurely watching birds eat our birdseed on the porch... it's still fucking gorgeous out, sunny and warm and blue skies and flowers everywhere, so it's cool that I get to be diurnal again for a bit.

Now I'm going to leisurely call Adecco and tell them I need a job, and then leisurely do my taxes. EXCITING.

So I just had a dream where all the muns in Econtra were playing Hide-and-Seek in the Science Building, and Ankhi had us all sign up for hiding, and she assigned a couple of muns to be the seekers and gave them other people's characters at random, and paired the seekers up. I forget who the other seekers were, but one pair was Shadow and, I think, Atem (I think Ankhi was playing Shadow? Or maybe Atem?). We were given a time limit to the round and then we all scattered. Lauren and I ran off to hide together, but she was occasionally Cory instead of Lauren. The room I wanted to hide in was locked, so them I let Lauren/Cory pick the next place. By now the seekers were seeking, so we had to dodge them while looking for a place to camp. The Science Building was full of all sorts of walkways and stairways crossing open space, like the stairs in the Atrium but moreso, approaching Hogwarts complexity. And we would luge down ramps and it felt a lot like playing Sonic Adventure 2. And there were all sorts of narrow, pitch-black tunnels and crawl spaces. For some reason, no matter where we went, or what direction we turned, Shadow and Atem were always right on my tail. I told Lauren (she was Lauren at the time) it must be because he was her character, they thought the same way. I wasn't sure how this worked with someone else playing him, but I wasn't sure how else to explain it. We tried to hide in the Music Room (why the Science Building had a Music Room is beyond me) but it was in use, then we managed to get to the Photo Room (*shrug*). Someone else was in there, but we hid in a different part of the room (Lauren had become Cory by this point). It was pitch-dark in there, and we could hear Shadow and Atem come down the crawl-space/tunnel/ramp into the room. The shuffled around in the dark a bit, but didn't find us, and disappeared back up the tunnel. We waited for a while, then realized the round was up in 30 seconds, so we all crawled back up the tunnel to get back to where we started from. Everyone reconvened, and the seekers came back all grumpy from not having found anyone, despite having searched for four hours. And then apparently it was someone's birthday, because people started carrying in gigantic bowls of what was supposed to be Chinese food. And by gigantic, I mean you and several of your friends could swim in them, they were bigger than the nudity parfait. The one nearest me was some kind of cross between Chinese hot-and-sour soup and Japanese miso ramen. I spent some time serving soup to people who were too far away to reach the bowl; everyone was from different countries and for some reason the broth would turn different colors depending on the types of algae and pollutants they had in the water in whatever country they were from. Eventually I finished this and settled down to eating my own food. Then I woke up.

This dream was preceded with other dreams, which I remember less clearly, but they involved hiding in a cabin with my mother, and messing with a sun god by pressing buttons on a small, hand-held device on my back porch at home.

Okay, so I've been re-watching Firefly, and I just finished watching the episode "Safe". In case you don't remember, that's the one where Shepherd Book gets shot while Mal tries to sell some cows, Simon and River get kidnapped by hillfolk, and the hillfolk try to burn River at the stake for being a witch. There's lots of flashbacks to when Simon is younger- Simon and River as kids, Simon realizing his sister's in trouble and his parents not listening, Simon getting bailed out of jail by his angry dad.

So, in the scene where Simon and River are kids, and they're playing Alliance vs Independents (the Independents outflanked them with dinosaurs, they've lost their supplies and now must cannibalize the men)- guess who plays Young Simon?

ZAC EFRON. BABY ZAC EFRON.

I totally didn't recognize him, he's so little and cute. I just happened to see his name in the credits and was like IJKEIUQLKAIGHZWHAT?!!

...ZAC EFRON. OH. EM. GEE.
